Basic Exponent Rules: WAR GAME (One Variable)

Regular price $3.00 $0.00 Unit price per

This differentiated game helps your students practice Product Rule, Power Rule, and Quotient Rule with single-variable expressions. This format is great for getting your class really comfortable with the basic Laws of Exponents before introducing more difficult Exponent Rules.

Three card sets are included. Use them for easy differentiation or play separate games alongside each of your exponent lessons.
- Set 1: Basic cards with Power Rule, Product Rule, and Quotient Rule (NO negative exponents
- Set 2: Cards with negative exponents in the expression or in the simplified result
- Set 3: Most difficult cards with multiple steps required (some negative exponents included)

After using each set, you can also mix all the card sets together as a review!

The game is played like "war." Take a look at the preview images for more detail.

Reviews from other teachers:

- Hands-down, this game was more of a success with my 8th graders than any other "card' game I have ever downloaded, printed, cut out, etc. My kids LOVED playing against each other. There are three different difficulty levels as well. You won't regret this purchase!

- My students love to play Exponents War! It is super engaging, they have to work together to confirm or deny each person's value of their card, and then they ask questions when they are not sure. I have at least 3 versions that I use: The first time is the high value wins. The second time the low value wins(like golf). Then the third time I let them have 4 cards in their hand and they get to choose which one to play. We usually play in 5 min timed rounds, stop, count and give prizes for each round(candy, stickers, etc). They get competitive and excited to do lots of math problems in only 5 min increments.

- I used this for extra practice with my students as we worked through different exponent properties, and added the differentiated sets as they learned rules. This was a great, low-prep activity that is engaging for students and really helps them to practice these skills.

- This resource was a great tool to engage my students in practicing ideas that they have already learned in prior years. It seemed like they really enjoyed this review game with their peers.

- This is an awesome activity to use as practice with exponents rules. This is completely differentiable and I let my students choose which set of cards they wanted to start with based on how comfortable they were with the rules and they moved up from there.

My students loved it! I really appreciated the different levels of decks. Thank you so much!

- Great for quick review or down time during transitions. Love to have the cards on hand and ready to use whenever we have time to review. My students also enjoyed playing it as a game as intended.

- We used this as a way to review and practice the exponent rules. The students loved the change in pace and participated really well.

- I used this as a review activity before a quiz. The students enjoyed being competitive and I heard a lot of good "math talk".

- My students LOVED this game. They wanted to kept playing it and have a tournament. So fun!

- I like this resource because it is challenging. My 8th grade at-level (many below level) students were engaged because of the game and practiced enough to see the structure of the exponent rules, especially since more than one rule were often used for one expression. Also, with having all bases the same, the focus was entirely on the exponents, again, really good for practice.

I have coworkers who raved about this game, so I know it'll be great.

My kids LOVED this activity! This group in particular has a short attention span and while I wasn't sure how long they would sit with it, they were still very into the game twenty minutes later!
