Congruent, Similar, or Neither - Practice / Review:

This activity will help your students practice identifying congruent and similar figures based on a variety of different given input information. They will decide whether each set of information represents a pair of similar figures, a pair of congruent figures, or neither. The 40 cards contain a mix of diagrams, figures on a coordinate plane, and word explanations so students get a variety of practice and have to use multiple skills and concepts. (Students must already know triangle sum theorem, basic transformations, properties of polygons, and the criteria for congruent and similar.)

Here is what's included:
- 3 quick - fold pockets to hold sorted cards
- 40 sorting cards (mix of diagrams, figures on a coordinate plane, and word explanations)
- 3 "answer cards" that list which cards should be in each pocket
- optional "sorting mat" to offer an alternative format (great for group work or learning stations)

Students will cut out and sort the cards into the correct pocket. The pockets fit well on an interactive notebook page.

Then, hand out the answer/check cards. After students have verified that their cards were sorted correctly, the answer cards can be tucked into the back of each pocket. Students can re-do the activity as a review at any time.

Reviews from other teachers:

- I used this as a review for the Congruence and Similarity Standards. My students loved it . Asking them to work with a partner and checking their progress after trying 5 card was fun. they were able to correct themselves and did better in the test that followed.

This was a great activity! It was thought provoking and challenging for my students. It made them think beyond what was given and use previous knowledge! A definite use again!

My students loved working on this in groups!

- I printed these cards and sent them my students who are in special education. I feel that even during digital learning, they need paper in hand to manipulate! Math Giraffe has a ton of useful resources, including Doodle Notes, that have been a lifesaver for all of my students, but particularly my special education students.

I love the thinking and conversations that go along with the card sorts!

Card sorts are MY favorite activity to watch students complete. So many great discussions to have when they're sorting. I use this activity a few times during this unit. It allows my kids to see the growth in their understanding. They remember they had trouble with some cards. After the 2nd time with this activity, they were feeling great!

- I enjoyed this activity as it made my kids think. Allowing them to work individually then partner up to check.

- I love these sorts! What starts out looking like a simple sorting activity, turns into some deep conversations/thinking. My students get really into them!

Love card sorts! Makes them pay attention to details!

- Great resource, really had the kids thinking and discussing. Thanks
