Writing Linear Equations - A Coordinate Football Game:

Easy differentiation and options for different grade levels / ability levels!

Game options are included:
- Use Card Set A for basic linear equations in Slope-Intercept Form, or...
- Use Card Set B for y-intercepts that are not integers (Students must use Point-Slope Form on these cards).... or...
- Mix the two decks together for a variety

Also, choose:
- Worksheet 1 if you want your students to only write equations in Slope-Intercept Form
- Worksheet 2 if you want them to find and record the Slope-Intercept Form and Point-Slope Form

This is a two-player game. A new "football play" card is drawn for each turn. The offensive player decides which of two points on the coordinate plane to pass the ball. The defensive player decides which of two defenders will attempt a tackle. A player scores by writing the equation for the line of the pass correctly....as long as the defender did not accurately make a tackle at the same point.

Reviews from other teachers:

My students really enjoyed playing this game. A fun way to practice slope and linear equations.

I loved this! It was complicated for my lower-level Algebra 1 kids, but perfect timing on "Super Bowl Friday" and good practice with writing equations from graphs. The game took far longer than one class period, but it was worth it for the practice component. And I love that they have the flowchart to keep score -- it kept it from being just a worksheet in task card form. Thank you!

Students always love playing a game. I love when they are actually doing math. This activity was both.

- My students loved this! So fun!

PERFECT

- The kids were engaged the whole time when playing this game!!!

- Fantastic activity- really made math fun for my kids.

- The students started slow with this - they needed a lot of directions. But after we played the first round together they got going and enjoyed the game. I really feel like it helped them practice writing linear equations. Thank you.

Some of my hard to reach boys loved the football connection.

- This is so different and fun! I'll be using it with my Algebra 2 students for review! Thank you!

I used this today with my class (as a review) - they LOVED it! One pair of students tied and begged for more problems as a tie breaker. I love that there are enough cards and scenarios that they can play it again sometime and not have the answers memorized. This was GREAT!

- My Algebra class of almost all boys loved this activity. Thanks so much!!
