Slope of a Line - Practice / Review Activity for Slope in different forms:

This Algebra sorting activity helps your students practice finding slope in different forms to determine whether the slope is positive, negative, undefined, or zero.

Here is what's included:

- 4 quick-fold pockets to hold sorted cards

- 30 basic cards (mix of graphs, tables, ordered pairs, and equations with y already isolated) to offer a variety of practice with the slope formula and with visual representations

- 10 optional add-on cards with equations in which students must isolate y

- 4 "answer cards" that list which cards should be in each pocket

- optional "sorting mat" for those who prefer a learning station format

Students will cut out and sort the cards into the correct pocket (positive slope, negative slope, zero slope, and undefined). The pockets fit well on an interactive notebook page.

Then, hand out the answer/check cards. After students have verified that their cards were sorted correctly, the answer cards can be tucked into each pocket. Students can re-do the activity as review at any time.

Reviews from Other Teachers:

I made a class set and laminated them for my 8th graders. We used them as a center, in small groups as a warm-up and right before state testing we brought them out again and reviewed slope. I love the variety of ways used to identify slope. For my 9th graders I printed a copy for each of them and they kept them as part of their interactive notebook. They used them as reference sheets, we put the answer on the back of them so they could do alone and check their work. Great product! Very versatile

Great activity! Students want to know if they are right! I love that it is self checking and reusable.

- LOVE the Card Sort Activities! Really allows students to develop a deeper understanding as they justify their solutions to their partners in class!

nice manipulative activity. all ur resources are great !! im a fan

- I like the option of using it as a station, instead of in notebooks. Thanks!

This was a great activity. My students are able to identify slope by looking at the graph, but having to match it up by the equation too, was new to them and it added another dimension to their learning. Be sure to laminate it for future use. I had students work separately at first and then let them work in groups, and there were some great discussions (and disagreements) going on.

- I love your slope resources and this was a wonderful addition!

- Great activity to give student variety but still practice a concept. The students really liked the questions and found that it was very helpful when preparing for the test.

- I use this as a card sort activity and it is a great visual for my students. Thanks for making the graphs so clear!

- This was a nice activity that allowed students to make connections regarding types of slope and their many representations. It allowed them to work collaboratively when I implemented it in stations. However, I like reading the feedback that many teachers had students use this as a review that students could take home to practice. They definitely enjoyed it in my classroom!

- I love all of the card sorts you created. I used them repeatedly throughout the school year.

- This was a great activity. My students were able to sort these right into their notebook so they have various representations of each type of slope.

- I used this as an extension activity for my higher level classes. It is a great activity for them to have to think through connections and all of the various forms. Thank you!

- Great way to practice the types of slope. My students like that it was something they could use over and over again to help them study.

- I am currently teaching summer school and I decided to review slope, this activity allowed my student to actually "do" something rather than just sitting there. This is really important because students normally don't want to be in summer school.
