Solving One and Two Step Inequalities: 4 page visual "doodle notes" set -

When students color or doodle in math class, it activates both hemispheres of the brain at the same time. There are proven benefits of this cross-lateral brain activity:
- new learning
- relaxation (less math anxiety)
- visual connections
- better memory & retention of the content!

Students fill in the sheets, answer the questions, and color, doodle or embellish. Then, they can use it as a study guide later on. Graphic doodle and sketch notes take full advantage of Dual Coding Theory (the way brains process visual and linguistic information) to maximize retention.

Content includes:
- reminders about solving (inverse operations, isolating the variable)
- solving 1 step inequalities by adding and subtracting
- solving 1 step inequalities by multiplying and dividing
- knowing when to reverse the inequality symbol
- visual analogies and reminders for sign flipping
- solving 2 step inequalities
- graphing and understanding solutions
- showing work and checking solutions
- practice and examples

Visual note taking strategies like sketch notes or doodle notes are based on dual coding theory.  When we can blend the text input with graphic/visual input, the student brain processes the information differently and can more easily convert the new learning into long-term memory.

This strategy also integrates the left and right hemispheres of the brain to increase focus, learning, and retention!

4 pages are included, plus answer keys, samples, and info.

Reviews from other teachers:

-These notes were incredibly engaging for my students! Even my more reluctant note-takers were excited to get out colored pencils and pens to fill in these notes. Great logical flow that clearly explains the content and helps students remember. The visuals are so fun too!

-Some of my students LOVE doodle notes! Not all of my students like them, so I let my students decide how they want to take notes. This one is great, because you can download it to a tablet and still use it as your notes even if not everyone does them! It is still a wonderful guide!

-My students love all doodle notes. They say it makes it easier to understand what we're studying and that they can make them so colorful.

-This was a helpful resource to use when reteaching. It was so effective that I've decided to use doodle notes for my interactive notebook next school year!

-I love doodle notes for my identified kids. They enjoy being creative. I love that the information on these sheets are repeated multiple times in different ways. By the time we filled in the 2nd page, students were able to finish sentences for me. It helped me really emphasize the important or tricky parts of this concept.
