Solving 2 Step Equations - Interactive "doodle notes" -

When students color or doodle in math class, it activates both hemispheres of the brain at the same time. There are proven benefits of this cross-lateral brain activity:
- new learning
- relaxation (less math anxiety)
- visual connections
- better memory & retention of the content!

Students fill in the sheets, answer the questions, and color, doodle or embellish. Then, they can use it as a study guide later on.

Content includes:
- "Cover it up" method for introduction and concept building
- Inverse operations method for solving 2 step equations
- how to show work
- how to write solutions
- checking answers by plugging back in
- concept of a solution
- keeping the equation balanced / equivalent
- performing order of operations backwards when UN-doing to solve
- performing order of op. forwards to simplify / evaluate (& to check solutions!)
- practice and examples

* No negative numbers (or fractions or decimals) are in this set.

Reviews from other teachers:

-This really helped the students break down the process step by step. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Doodle Notes!

-I LOVE THESE DOODLE NOTES! The visuals and the concepts are easy to follow and engaging for students. The students enjoy having colorful and meaningful notes to refer back to.

-I love using doodle notes, they help capture students attention and improve student engagement. I also love that they break down concepts making it easier for my students with learning difficulties to understand.

-I like that there were 2 methods. One was very visual for the students and then the second was more abstract. I think it helped students see how we would solve and why we solve the way we do. My students (most of them) liked that they could decorate the notes as we went. I had a girl ask if we could polka-dot and then stripe other titles. Very engaging.

-I used this resource to support my individualized instruction for my SPED students. Often a fully filled in Doodle Note page can be overwhelming with the amount of content for my kids, so I took the content and put less on a page for my kids. Starting with Method 1/coverup really really helped them conceptualize what was happening first before moving to the abstract rules.
